The pain and beauty of undefined centers in Human Design
Why undefined energy centers are the trickiest ones and how am I able to write blog posts with my undefined throat center?
Looking at a Human Design chart, you can notice 9 different shapes. These shapes are our energy centers and can be colored, i.e. defined, or white, i.e. undefined. Each center corresponds to processing a specific type of energy. For example, on my own chart below you can see colorful defined Identity, Will, Root, Sacral and Spleen center. Instead Head, Anja, Throat and Emotional Solar Plexus are white inside, which means that these centers are undefined, open for me. What can we learn about ourselves through Human Design energy centers?
First excitement about my defined centers
At first when I learned about my centers, I was attracted by the defined centers, because somehow these made more sense to me. And it’s true - these are the centers to whose energy we have constant and fixed access. It means that we experience the energy of defined centers always in the same way. Therefore, it’s easier to recognize ourselves in the description which Human Design provides about each specific center.
Defined centers have their own issues, but overall they are much easier to manage than the sometimes traumatic experiences of open centers. (Karen Curry Parker)
But then the magic of undefined centers opens my eyes
In the beginning I was even a bit disappointed about having open centers. I was confused and wondering if I was left without some type of energy.
Can I ever share my thoughts about things that I like, if my throat center is open?
How should I be able to create blogs and podcasts with my open throat center?
My first impression was that people with defined throat center have an advantage compared to me. But then I realized that it’s not true!
First of all, there is no such thing as a good or bad chart. The beauty of Human Design lies in illustrating everyone’s uniqueness in the puzzle of humanity. The definition or openness of centers doesn’t mean having or not having something. The energy in open centers is simply inconsistent, it’s not always there.
Imagine an open energy center like an empty container ready to be filled with all kinds of goodies, because the content changes depending on where and with whom you are. Open centers take in and amplify energy and information from the world around you. While defined centers are like containers where you know what to expect from inside, open centers can surprise you, give a chance to experience life from many different perspectives.
That’s why it’s very important to be conscious about our open centers so that these could become a source of wisdom instead of suffering. Without knowing how open centers work, you may think that the energy in your open centers is yours and expresses your personal characteristics. Instead this in-taken energy is always mutable and reflects the environment around you. You are not your open centers. You can just learn to let that energy flow through your undefined centers, reflect, but not absorb. Don’t make that energy yours, neither keep it in.
You are not your open centers.
So, the answer to my concerns about self-expression is, that yes, I can write blogs even if I have an open throat center. There are just couple of things that I need to keep in mind:
Accept that the way I speak feels different every time. Take it as a gift and with experience master the ability to express the same idea in many ways according to my audience.
Use the inconsistent in-taken energy wisely following my Human Design strategy and authority. In my case as a generator it means that I can express myself in response to something, otherwise I won’t be heard and I’m just wasting my resources.
Experiment working on my blog posts in the presence of other people, so that I could rely on the energy of defined throat centers around me, rather than working alone. Learn whos energy is helpful and create a network accordingly.
Undefined centers can cause suffering and make you feeling like “not enough” in life areas which are connected to the specific open centers. On the other hand they offer an immense opportunity to gain wisdom. Once you learn to master the energy of open centers, the game changes and the real potential shows up!
Dear reader, what’s your experience with undefined energy centers? I’d love to read your insights and questions in the comments.
Find your flow,
